Broken The Cavanaugh Brothers Laura Wright Books
I love the world of River Black and the Cavanaugh brothers! I am totally invested in resolving the mystery around Cass and I can't decide which Cavanaugh brother I want for my "book boyfriend" (Although Blue has some ground to make up since he has made himself scarce since Branded) Laura has created a world of real characters that are overcoming (or not) the past that forged them and set them on their current path.Sheridan is strong woman, that is in all honesty, too self sufficient. She goes through an amazing cycle of self evaluation, realization and growth in this story. Rarely does an author capture this in a story, but Laura not only captured it, she owned it and made one my favorite heroines of all time. Not because Sheridan slayed monsters or saved the world, but because she could take a step back to slay her personal dragon and totally redefine her world.
To me James was the more intriguing of the Cavanaugh bothers and I couldn't wait to meet and learn more about him. Don't get me wrong, he might be my favorite, but I am sad to say, I was really disappointed in his side of the story. In fact, this is first time I think that Laura Wright dropped the ball and left me wanted more and not in a good way.
It felt like James' character was never fully developed. Laura opened the door to some really significant issues with Tori, but then didn't really address them, like she was afraid of it.
More than that, it was the fact Laura never told us how James ended up as a horse whisperer. She make us understand loud and clear James had a gift, but that isn't something he just woke up with one day, especially since we are told several different times, this was not something from his childhood.
In chapter four, James says "Horses saved me from a very dark time in my life. I will always return that kindness." THIS is the story I want to know. What happened? How did a horse save him? How did he learn to commune with horses? At one point in the story, Sheridan notes he communes with horses like it was spiritual, that's the story I want to read! Please Laura, can we have this story?
This is still a good story, but it was so close to amazing, I am actually sad to give it only 3 stars. Maybe we can get a short story about James and his horses in the future.

Broken The Cavanaugh Brothers Laura Wright Books Reviews
Loved James and Sheridan's story. The Cavanaugh brothers have some serious issues from the death of their sister but want answers to the unsolved murder of their sister. They are all there for Deac and Mac's wedding and Sheridan is working for Deac and taking care of the renovations on his ranch. James was taken from the moment he saw her but with his history with women he tries to stay away from her for her own safety. Sheridan doesn't do relationships for fear of losing herself and all she has worked for. But the chemistry to strong to keep them apart. When Sheridan runs into some trouble James knows he is not meant to have relationships for fear of something happening to Sheridan from his past history. But the author manages to bring things together all the while we are still trying to learn about Cass and who murdered her and why. I love Cole and can't wait for his story. A bit of danger....suspense...and some crazy sexy cowboy love makes this book pretty amazing. Great read and highly recommend this series.
4.5*
James Cavanaugh is a man broken by the loss of his sister under his watch, the subsequent guilt forced upon him by his unstable mother, and a tragic incident from his college days. He feels that he is a jinx to any woman he loves, and therefore is not a relationship kind of guy.
James is also the horse-whisperer. He gentles--breaks--wild horses. You can draw your own conclusions from that.
Sheridan is James' brother's assistant. (Deacon, from BRANDED). She has her own broken childhood that has led her to be wary of relationships. Especially if they get in the way of her career.
The problem is that they're attracted to each other and tempted to break their own rules. But what happens when James' past seems to be repeating itself?
Sheridan is funny, strong and wise. James is hot, protective, fierce, and gentle. They quote Shakespeare to each other. I loved them both.
The series arc regarding the murder of the Cavanaugh sister, Cass, continues. In fact, it seems to kick into high gear. The mystery is more tantalizing than ever. Cole might have given us a whopper of a clue in one throwaway line, but who knows? The murderer also could be--I'll let you come up with your own theories.
Enjoy!
This series has me hooked. I cannot wait to find out what really happened to Cass!!! These are not stand alone books. They literally take place just days after the previous one and there is a huge story Arc started in the first book that is on going through the series. Each of the Cavanaugh brother’s gets a HEA with their woman at the end of their book but we are still left hanging about the dead sister and what really happened to her. Through the books we are given pages from her diary that gives us little clues about what might have happened to the 14 year old girl that was crushing on an older guy that she knew only as Sweet. The author has done a great job with the mystery and hooks you from the start and its torture just getting tiny clues here and there.
Now for the romance part.. In this one the brother James Cavanaugh is the main hero who is known as the horse whisperer. All of the brothers feel a sense of guilt over their sister dying but James is carrying more from losing other women in his life also. He has a strong sense to protect women but yet wont let himself ever get close to another one again for fear he wont be able to save them. So when he realizes he has feelings for his brother Deacon’s admin he really struggles. Sheridan came off as very aloof in the first book. We finally get to see why she projects herself that way and that deep down she had just as many fears of letting anyone in as James did. I give 2 thumbs up to the author for allowing the woman this time be the one that pull the stick out of her butt first and stands up to James to do the same.
The set up for the final book looks epic and I cannot wait for both Cole and Grace’s story AND to FINALLY get resolution on Cass.
