GRIT The Banter and Brutality of the LateNight Cab Driver eBook Karl Wiggins
Karl Wiggins goes from comedy to philosophy in seconds. And he throws in a little bit of advice here and there. I love his books. Grit is a revealing, honest, and outspoken story of the life of a cab driver. Wiggins takes you for a ride in his cab and the only fare you have to pay is learning the harsh reality of street life, night life, and the cab driver. I laughed; I gasped; and I enjoyed the ride. Great job. Guys, You will love this.Carole McKee, Author

GRIT The Banter and Brutality of the LateNight Cab Driver eBook Karl Wiggins Reviews
This book has some really funny moments. It could have been even better if the writer expanded a little on those moments. The odd people he's met are unbelievable. An entertaining read.
This is a realist look at the world as seen from the perspective of a London cabbie. Drama, humo(u)r, pain...it's all here.
A sober man in a drunk's world.... This book tells stories of the characters he picks up (mostly drunk), the other cabbies (all scrappy) and the places they inhabit (surprisingly violent).
I never knew British people fought so much on the street! Good lord! I'm glad though that it seems most of them aren't actually planning on severely injuring each other. Contrast that to the author's experiences in South Central LA ...
Overall, really interesting glimpse into a part of the world most of us don't see. I was toying with the idea of driving Uber or Lyft or something becore reading this. Now I'm kinda thinking it might not be a good fit for me. Happy reading!
I loved this book about a cabby plying his trade in areas fairly local to me. Some of the situations he finds himself in, with these bizarre characters walking into his life, or into his cab to be more precise, are funny, some are a little more serious. Overall, the book is very entertaining and well-written. I have no problems recommending it, and have done so to friends already!
Absolutely incredible, I read the sample and had to buy the book. I usually never buy books and just find them online but I had to make the exception for this due to the author's eloquence. The stories are really funny and serious when they need to be. I definitely would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a genuinely straight up genius work. Karl Wiggins is like a contemporary Socrates
GRIT by Karl Wiggins is yet another of his humorous, honest slices of life told in only a way this Londoner can do to make you feel you personally know all the birds, lads, and other assorted characters fortunate enough to cross his path. I'm addicted to his wicked sense of humor, but bought GRIT because I'd lived in NYC and taken enough cab rides, I was sure I'd seen and heard it all. Things are quite different across the pond.
With razor-sharp wit, Wiggins throws out tidbits about almost every facet of his life to enlighten us and invoke smiles and chuckles from the get-go. Now, just as importantly, Wiggins makes the most of mundane moments (which we all have) and leaves us in deep thought between snickering and full on outbursts of laughter.
GRIT is not just about life inside a cab and the variety of nitwits and norms who pay (or sometimes don't) the fares. I adored reading about all his various mates, and admit Wiggins' depiction of Ronnie Brazil drew me instantly to the curly hair man who was ablaze with energy, and I was ready to let "brazen" Brazil pour a pitcher/pint over my head anytime. I don't drink often enough but love to walk into a bar with a great atmosphere that makes me smile. And this is what opening a Karl Wiggins book does for me. I'm still smiling as I type this review.
And PLEASE don't pass his "About The Author" section at the end of GRIT. It's bonus humor, and offered me even more information about this writer with the mischievous sparkle in his eye.
I really liked this book. The author tells his stories of run-in's with people you hope you never meet and oddball characters who grace his cab with great humor and a sort of world-weary shrug of the shoulders. He has an easy, casual style of writing, and I liked that he also included stories of madcap cab driver's he's had the pleasure to work with over the years. The book is a completely original, highly entertaining read. I recommend it to everyone, especially those who enjoy reading a book that presents a uniquely humorous look at human foibles. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
